Bob Marley Posters, Music, Art, and Humanity

What exactly is the attraction when it comes to Bob Marley posters? They seem to be very popular amongst the college crowd for one. Walk through any college campus, and check out all the Marley t-shirts for starters.

Everybody knows who Bob Marley was. His music and persona touched a generation, and many of the generations that followed. It wasn’t just his music, but his beliefs and passion for equality that has carried his name and legacy.

So many of the photographs and posters of his concerts and life are almost icon as well. Much like the Warhol photos of Marilyn Monroe. We’ve seen them all so many times, it almost like they been marketing by a fortune 100 company. But in fact they haven’t.

What is it, that makes a celebrity a celebrity? Hard to say, as there are so many, but for the most part, it is a larger than life mystique. Celebrities come and go. Even some icons come and go, but some stay within our pop culture bubble for generations. Bob Marley does. True part of it may because of a tragically short life, but part of it was also the universal message of love he sang of.

Did even Bob Marley know, that his popularity would continue on so long after his passing? Likely not. And I wonder for how many more years it will continue. There are over 2.7 million searches a month for the name Bob Marley in Google. That’s incredible. I guess will be seeing his posters, and hearing his music for some years yet.

Would his popularity have been the same today, if he hadn’t died so young? What message would he have for us in this digital age?

The popular and growing fascination with all things Bob Marley continues to be reflected in the sales of his music, his posters, his photographs, and his lyrics. Nobody generates that much interest, without appealing to people on different levels. It was never really just about the music, it was about the man himself.

It would be remarkable to see a Bob Marley concert today. His message is one that would ring clear in these troubled times. That goodness for the recorded medium. We’ll be able to see and hear him for many generations more.
